Streets and sidewalks remain slick

Kingston’s significant weather declaration remains in effect following the March 28 ice storm, with dangerous conditions still present across the city. Officials are urging residents to stay indoors whenever possible, as icy sidewalks, fallen trees, and downed power lines pose serious risks.

Road and sidewalk clearing efforts continue, but walking surfaces remain slippery. Kingston Transit is operating under its Snow Plan network, and non-essential travel is discouraged.

"The safety of our community is our top priority,” said Karen Santucci, Director of Public Works. “Crews and first responders are working around the clock, and we appreciate everyone’s patience.”

Tree branches and ice continue to fall, making parks and wooded areas particularly dangerous. Kingston Fire and Rescue warns residents to stay clear of fallen power lines and to report them immediately by calling 911.

Emergency shelters remain open, and outreach teams are working to assist vulnerable individuals. Residents needing to dispose of fallen branches can visit the Lappan’s Lane drop-off site.

Utilities Kingston crews are working to restore power, and residents can check outage maps for updates. If you see a downed line, stay back at least 10 metres and call emergency services.
